Popular brands like COSRX, Anua, Medicube, Huda Beauty and Rare Beauty are also some of the most copied. A fake product can disappoint – and in some cases irritate your skin. These simple checks will help you shop with more confidence.
1. Be careful with prices that look too good
If a product is sold for far less than everywhere else, ask why. Imported beauty products have real costs – shipping, customs and storage – so a very low price is one of the most common warning signs.
2. Check the seller, not just the product
- Does the store clearly explain where its products come from?
- Does it have a written return and authenticity policy?
- Can you reach real customer support before and after you order?
A seller who stands behind their products will answer these questions openly.
3. Look closely at the packaging
- Print quality: blurry logos, uneven colours or spelling mistakes are red flags.
- Seals: many products come with a seal, shrink wrap or inner foil. A missing or broken seal is a reason to ask questions.
- Batch code: most brands print a batch or lot code on both the box and the bottle. They should match.
- Expiry: check the expiry date or the “period after opening” symbol (an open jar with a number like 12M).
Keep in mind that packaging can legitimately differ between countries, batches and brand redesigns. A different sticker, language or barcode does not automatically mean a product is fake – which is why it helps to ask the seller.
4. Trust your senses
If the texture, colour or smell is very different from what you know, or the product separates, stop using it. Do not continue a product that burns or irritates your skin.
5. Ask before you use it
If something does not look right, contact the seller before opening or using the product, and send clear photos of the packaging, batch code and expiry date.
